Weston Schoon M.S. LMHCA
I’m Weston, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate. I was born in a small village in Sweden, moved to China when I was eight, and studied psychological science in Italy before ending up back in the States for grad school. I see all ages, from little ones to grown men who swore they’d never try therapy, but I especially love working with kids, teens, young adults, and the parents who love them, whether it’s anxiety, big emotions, trauma, or the messy in between of college, first jobs, and figuring out who you are.
My master’s is in counseling psychology with a focus on children and adolescents. I’ve also spent nine years working with horses and young people, from teaching kids to ride in Colorado to helping start two equine therapy programs in California. Horses taught me that you can’t reason with a scared animal. You help it feel safe first, and then it can learn. People work the same way. Bruce Perry calls it regulate, relate, reason.
So I start with the nervous system: noticing when your body feels safe and when it doesn’t and finding your way back to regulation. From there, I draw mostly from solution-focused, cognitive behavioral, and existential therapy. Expect practical tools, plenty of play with the younger crowd, and hopefully a few laughs.
I’m a Christian, and if you want faith in the room, I’m glad to bring it. Either way, I’ll respect wherever your search for truth and meaning has taken you.
It’s hard out there. Life is also worth living, and you don’t have to figure it out alone. Come on in. We’ll make some tea and see if we can’t find the next right step.
